PURPOSE:To prevent a pair of magnetic heads from deviating from their tracks by equalizing the butting width of a magnetic recording medium joint surface in the magnetic circuit parts of a pair of magnetic heads to the track width of a magnetic gap. CONSTITUTION:A nonmagnetic plate 43 is fitted in a coil hole groove 42 on a ferromagnetic oxide substrate 41, and ground on the same surface of the substrate. On a surface 44a tilting at an azimuth theta with respect to a substrate upper surface 41a a groove 44 is formed perpendicular to the groove 42. A ferromagnetic metallic thin film 45 comprising the other half core is coated through a nonmagnetic gap spacer film. The track with of the reverse half core and that of the magnetic gap are matched abutted and subjected to glass fusion. A U-shaped groove 51 is produced perpendicular to the joint surface of the half cores so that magnetic recording medium joint surfaces ia and iia may attain the prescribed track width Tw, and filled with nonmagnetic material 52. Then the cores are sliced at positions A and A', cylindrically ground to complete. A composite magnetic head, which never deviates from the track thanks to said constitution and has an excellent engagement with a magnetic recording medium, can be obtained.
