PURPOSE:To prevent the deflection of a wire to be caused, by providing movable pulleys at opposite ends of an arm having a central portion pivotally mounted to a shaft located between a pair of fixed pulleys in front of a winch to permit the arm to turn in the normal and reverse directions. CONSTITUTION:There are provided fixed pulleys 7 in front of a winch 3 and a heave compensator 8 is provided between them. The heave compensator 8 comprises an arm 13 having a central portion fixed to the output shaft of a drive unit 12 and a pair of movable pulleys 14 axially attached to its opposite ends, respectively, which are so arranged that a wire 11 has substantially an S-shape. When the drive unit 12 is driven in the normal and reverse directions in response to a command from a controller, the arm 12 is turned in the normal and opposite directions. Since the movable pulleys 14 permit the wire 11 to change its length drawn in by such an arrangement, the deflection of the wire can be removed.
