A mold used for making a sandwich-type construction block has a plurality of substantially flat walls defining a substantially closed parallepipedal cavity and each having an inner surface turned toward the cavity and a plurality of respective linings on at least some of the inner surfaces. Each of the linings has a durable and flexible skin exposed in the cavity and a soft elastomeric layer at least 2mm thick lying between and adhered to the respective skin and inner face. The mold is used by first removing, normally by pivoting out, at least one of the walls to open the respective side of the cavity. Then at least two rigid tiles are fitted into the mold with the tiles spaced apart and the tile edges in snug engagement with the other walls of the mold. A foamable synthetic-resin mixture is introduced into the space between the tiles fitted into the mold. Finally the one wall of the mold is closed with concomitant compression of the respective lining to prevent the mixture from passing around the edges of the tiles. |
