PURPOSE:To make getting on and off a vehicle easy, by locking a steering wheel moved upwardly when getting on or off the vehicle by the engagement of a ratchet and a locking projected portion formed to a movable bracket for preventing the steering wheel from dropping. CONSTITUTION:A steering shaft 20 is constructed by connecting a lower shaft 22 axially supported by a fixed bracket 25 and an upper shaft 21 axially supported by a movable bracket 32 by a universal joint 23. A lock lever 45 is supported by a shaft 46 at one side wall of the fixed bracket 25 and a ratchet restricting claw 54 is fixed to the base end portion of the shaft 46. In addition, the side wall front edge of the movable bracket 32 is formed to an arc-shaped surface 39, a plurality of locking teeth 40 are formed at its lower portion and a locking projecting portion 41 is formed at its upper portion. The restricting claw 54 is provided with a tip claw portion 55 in such a manner that it is movable only when a locking portion 51 of a ratchet 50 is engaged with the engaging teeth 40 so that the upper shaft 21 can be held at the moved up position by the engagement of the locking projecting portion 41. |
