PURPOSE:To obtain a sail of good controllability, by molding the point end part of a tapered batten into a circular arc shape. CONSTITUTION:A tapered batten 1, whose point end part is molded into a circular arc shape by piling polyester resin, epoxy resin, etc. into layers to be heated and pressed down by glass fiber, carbon fiber, kevlar fiber, etc., forms one surface in a direction 2, having the attachment of strong tension, while the opposite surface having a deflected gentle curved surface 3. Consequently, if said tapered batten 1 is mounted to a sail, the sail provides good controllability because a ship, when it advances toward the open sea, controls a curved surface of the sail to agree with wave force and wind force while the ship, when it returns to the land, controls the sail to deenergize wind force.
