PURPOSE:To shorten the time required for coloring by impressing a voltage for color change after all of electronic switches connected to electrochromic elements whose color should be changed are turned on. CONSTITUTION:A control part 27 impresses the first voltage and the fourth voltage to X lines and Y lines, to which both terminals of display elements 14 whose color should be changed are connected, successively in time division and impresses the second voltage and the third voltage to the other X lines and Y lines to turn on electronic switches 16 of all of display elements 14 whose color should be changed. A function is provided which controls an X line driver 25 and a Y line driver 26 so that voltages for color change are impressed to X lines and Y lines after electronic switches 16 of all of display elements 14 whose color should be changed are turned on. Thus, the time required for color change of all of electrochromic elements 15 whose color should be changed is shortened.
