A felt (10) for dewatering paper webs is disclosed having resilient machine direction yarns (12) interleaved with high strength machine direction yarns (14) and cross-direction yarns (16) interwoven with said machine direction yarns in long floats to form a quasi-crossless structure. A second set of yarns (18) having a relatively small diameter may be used to bond the machine direction yarns (12, 14) together. Preferably, the cross direction yarns (16) of the first set are in engagement with, or are wrapped around, the resilient machine direction yarns so that they all lie on the same side of the high strength machine direction yarns. <IMAGE> |
