Liquid-solid metal alloy is produced by heating an alloy of dendritic structure to between its solidus and liquidus temp. and subjecting the alloy to shearing action to break up the dendritic structures. Shearing may be effected by an extruder or an injection moulding machine, pref. a reciprocating screw injection moulding machine. Thixotropic alloy contg. up to 65%wt.% solids, for use in injection moulding, forging or die casting processes, is produced without having to heat the alloy to above its liquidus temp.
