PURPOSE:To make it possible to efficiently load a plurality of plate materials successively onto respective racks, by surely and rapidly lowering several racks which are leaped up obliquely upward above a book storing carriage, one by one down to a horizontal position in a mechanical manner so that the racks are associated with a loading conveyer. CONSTITUTION:When the loading of four treads onto a rack 32 is completed, an elevator 83 is elevated while a movable plate 84 is advanced, and a hook holding device 92 is moved as indicated by the two-dot-chain lines, G-H-I-J so that a rod 94a abuts against a hook 32a at the position J. When a spring 96 is depressed, the hook 32a is clamped between upper and lower rods 93a, 94a to hold the rack 32, and a support arm 101 is rotated downward to stand by. Then, the elevator 83 is lowered while the hook holding device 92 is moved along an arcuated locus down to the position K to downward rotate an arm 99 which therefore holds the rack 32 at the position K against the upper surface of a carriage, and a cylinder 91 extends so that the hook holding device 92 is retracted to the position G. Meanwhile, the support arm on standing by is rotated again upward to support stacked racks at the bottom of the latter. Thus, it is possible to efficiently load plate-like materials or the like onto a book storing carriage.
