PURPOSE:To eliminate the influence caused by heat and to enable highly accurate peripheral turning of a thin cylindrical workpiece by inserting a cutting auxiliary material soaked with coolant into a work cylinder so as to bring the outer periphery of the cutting auxiliary material into contact with the internal wall of the work cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A sponge cylinder 2 made of urethane resin is formed around a metallic bar shaft 1, and the sponge cylinder 2 soaked with cutting fluid 3 is inserted into a work cylinder 5, which is sustained by a chuck 7 and center 8 with both ends plugged with pieces 6-1 and 6-2 and is rotated resulting in the turning of the periphery with cutting tool. This leads to the absorption of the heat of the work cylinder generated by the contact of the outer periphery of a cutting auxiliary material 4 to a work cylinder internal wall without lowering the form and tolerance grades, also leads to the absorption of microvibration resulting in chatter prevention, and allows highly accurate peripheral turning of a thin cylinder.
