PURPOSE:To quickly analyze the components of a metal in a molten state without contact by blowing a chemical flame to the surface of a molten metal and subjecting the emission spectra generated from the locally heated part to spectroscopy. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal is locally heated by the chemical flame and emits the emission spectra when the various chemical flames are blown onto the surface of the molten metal. This direct emission spectrochemical analysis makes the spectrochemical analysis of the components in the molten metal by subjecting the emitted spectra to spectroscopy. More specifically, the apparatus of this method consists of a lance 2 for blowing the chemical flame to the molten metal, an optical fiber 3 as an optical system for introducing the emission spectra from the locally heated part 9 to a spectroscope 10 and the spectroscope 10 for making the spectroscopy of the emission spectra. A calibration curve is preliminarily formed by first preparing a sample in which the contents of the respective elements contained in the molten metal are changed stepwise, and investigating the correlations of the respective elements in the heated parts with the intensities of the emission spectra in accordance with the contents of the elements incorporated therein.
