PURPOSE:To provide a titled stainless steel which has excellent heat check resistance, cold forgeability and oxidation resistance and is suitable for use in a high temp. oxidative atmosphere of about 850 deg.C by respectively specifying the contents of C, Si, Mn, Ni, Cr, Mo, and Al. CONSTITUTION:This martensitic heat resisting stainless steel contains, by weight, 0.15-0.65% C, <=0.60% Si, <=1.0% Mn, 0.20-1.5% Ni, 15.0-18.0% Cr, 0.50-2.0% Mo, and 0.10-1.0% Al and consists of the balance Fe and impurity elements. Al is particularly incorporated at >=0.10% into the above-mentioned components, by which the Ac1 transformation point is increased to >=850 deg.C and the max. service temp. of a precombustion chamber of a diesel engine, etc., or above. Since the oxidation resistance is improved by the formation of the protective film consisting of Al2O3, the generation of heat checks is suppressed and the heat check resistance is improved.
