PURPOSE:To obtain a canine C-reactive protein (CRP) closely correlated to inflammatory diseases in a relatively good yield and in high purity, by separating and purifying the above-mentioned CRP using ion exchange chromatography, block electrophotoresis, etc., in combination. CONSTITUTION:Blood serum of a dog with acute inflammatory disease is first treated with, e.g. salt concentration elevation method for acute phase blood serum to give a fraction containing CRP, immunoglobulin, transferrin and ceruloplasmin. Stepwise elution is then carried out to afford a fraction consisting essentially of CRP, which is treated by affinity chromatography to adsorb and remove the immunoglobulin. The unadsorbed fraction is then treated by block separating electrophoresis to give the aimed mobile CRT having average 157,000 mol.wt. measured by a column gel filtration method and average 155,000mol.wt. measured by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and 4.75 isoelectric point at the slow-gamma position on the cathode side.
