PURPOSE:To obtain a surface combustion burner, low in cost, small in the possibility of backfire and excellent in combustion property by a method wherein a flame keeping member for a combustion surface is provided in the outflow port of mixed gas of a casing member while a flow regulating member is provided at the upstream side of a flame keeping member with a necessary distance from the flame keeping member. CONSTITUTION:Air and fuel gas are mixed by a mixing and releasing device 2 and arrive at a flow regulating member 4. The circulating flow of mixed gas is restricted in the flow regulating member 4 and the promotion of mixing as well as the uniforming of the flow of gas are done in the same member 4 while uniform flow, accompanied by very fine circulating flow, is formed at the downstream side of the flow regulating member. Mixed gas, arriving at a flame keeping member 3, is ignited by an ignitor and good blue flames are formed on the surface of the flame keeping member 3. In this case, the flow regulating member 4 is provided between the mixing and releasing device 2 and the flame keeping member 3, therefore, the possibility of backfire from the flame keeping member 3 is reduced remarkably by the flow regulating effect of the member 4. If a distance H between the flow regulating member 4 and the flame keeping member 3 is reduced to decrease the reserving amount of mixed gas between both members 4, 3, therefore, explosion may be restricted to a small explosion in case backfire is caused accidentally.
