PURPOSE:To increase catalytic area by immersing a carrier in the aq. soln. of gold and a metal for forming a gold composite oxide and the aq. soln. of urea and/or acetamide to deposit the gold and the gold composite oxide. CONSTITUTION:Urea and/or acetamide are added to the aq. soln. of a gold salt and the salt of a metal selected from chromium, iron, cobalt, and nickel, and mixed. The carrier consisting of the fibrous, particulate, honeycomb, and foamed bodies of silica, alumina, magnesia, etc., is immersed in the aq. soln., and the material is aged at an appropriate temp. to selectively deposit gold and the gold composite oxide or its precursor only on the surface of the carrier. The product is washed with water, dried, and baked by the ordinary method to form the catalytic body. The total concn. of the metallic salt in the aq. soln. wherein the carrier is immersed is preferably controlled to 5X10<-3>-5X10<-1>M. |
