PURPOSE:To output an easy-to-listen sound during a video search by providing a switching means which switches and outputs an audio signal which is not compressed by a time compressing means and an audio signal which is compressed. CONSTITUTION:A high-speed reproduced waveform which appears at the input of a chopper circuit 14 with pulses from an oscillation circuit 15 is discarded for a specific time and a waveform of clock pulses which are generated within a period synchronized with the oscillation frequency and remain within the time of the discharging is expanded to restore a waveform of frequency which coincides with a standard speed reproduced waveform. Consequently, the restored waveform decreases in sound recording contents, i.e. the number of waves per unit time in view of a sound and is heard in human ears in the state of a fast talk. Then the frequency is equal to that at the time of a standard playback speed, so the articulation does not decreases and the sound recording contents are grasped sufficiently in a time such shorter than the sound recording time. Consequently, the sound is outputted in an easy-to-listen state when a video search is made while the sound is heard.
