A stable thickened bleach containing composition consists of an aqueous alkali metal hypochlorite, an alkali metal hydroxide and a thickening additive composed of at least one of (A) alkali metal salts of N- alkyl, N-acyl amino acids, and (B) alkali metal salts of alkyl sulfates, or mixtures thereof. The compositions have viscosities of at least 25 centipoises and remain stable without phase separation and maintain their viscosity and hypochlorite concentration for extended periods. The compositions may be used to clear clogged drains. |
