PURPOSE:To increase lubricity and the affinity of a lubricating agent to a magnetic film and to improve the lubricating performance of a magnetic recording medium by forming a surface treatment layer bound with a silicon coupling agent having the molecular structure resembling to the molecular structure of a fluorine lubricating agent on the magnetic film or a protective film formed thereon. CONSTITUTION:The surface treatment layer consisting of the resulted product of recording to the surface treating agent of the molecular structure consisting of the perfluoropolyether chain expressed by the formula I as the basic skeleton and having at least one of the functional groups which are expressed by the formulas II, III and can be chemically bound with the surface of the magnetic recording medium is provided on the surface of the magnetic recording medium having the magnetic film formed on the substrate or the protective film on the magnetic film or the lubricating layer consisting of the fluorine lubricating agent is further provided on the surface treatment layer. X, Y, Z in the formulas II, III denote groups and at least one among these groups is at least one kind of the groups selected from OH, OR (R is an alkyl group), NCO, and halogen and the balance denote an alkyl group. The lubricating layer which is easily shearable by friction is made to exist on the surface treatment layer by forming the surface treatment layer into the two-layered structure having the affinity to the lubricating agent. The friction is thereby additionally decreased and the surface treatment layer is eventually protected. |
