PURPOSE:To record plural sound signals, e.g. a stereo signal on one track and to reproduce plural sound signals, e.g. a stereo sound signal from one track by recording the 1st sound signal in a band where the luminance signal component of a video signal is recorded and the 2nd sound signal in a band where chrominance signal components are recorded. CONSTITUTION:A recording device which records a video or sound signal on a recording medium is provided with switching circuits 17 and 17' which are controlled by a microcomputer MC 20 as a control means which records the 1st sound in the band where the luminance signal component of the video signal is recorded and also records the 2nd sound in the band where chrominance signal components are recorded. Then, a reproducing device is provided with switching circuits 62 and 62' which are controlled by an MC 20 as a control means which reproduces the signal in the band where the luminance signal component of the video signal is recorded as the 1st sound and the signal in the band where the chrominance signal components of the video signal are recorded as the 2nd sound. Consequently, the 1st sound is recorded in the band of the luminance signal component of the video signal and the 2nd sound in the band of the chrominance signal components. Further, the signal in the band of the luminance signal of the video signal is reproduced as the 1st sound and the signal in the band of the chrominance signal components is reproduced as the 2nd sound.
