PURPOSE:To obtain an original reader on which an area is easily specified without making the operation part of a main body complex nor making processing complicated by allowing area specification independently of the operation part of the main body. CONSTITUTION:An area is specified independently of the operation part of the main body and the area specification is facilitated without making the operation part of the main body complex nor making the processing complicated. Further, an area specifying board 60 is independent, so keys other than an on-line key 69, a specification confirmation key 72, and a specification end key 73 can be operated even during the reading operation of the original reader, and coordinate data can be inputted at any time. Further, the display on the operation part of the main body is modified according to area data and mode data from the area specifying board 60 and the operation procedure of the operation part is reduced.
