PURPOSE:To accurately display the running quantity of a tape even when the control signal at the side edge of the tape is not counted, by dividing the output pulse of a frequency generator fitted to a capstan with a tape counter and displaying the running quantity of the tape in the units of hours, minutes, and seconds. CONSTITUTION:At the time of queue/review or quick feeding/rewinding, capstan FG pulses are supplied to a 1/1,350 frequency divider through a change-over switch 1 in an LP mode recording area and further supplied to a tape counter 3 as the signal of 1 pulse/1sec. Then display in hours, minutes, and seconds is performed in a display section 4 with the output of the tape counter 3. In an SP mode recording area, the tape speed is fixed at 8 times or 16 times, but, since the number of reproduced tracks per unit time becomes 1/2 time of the LP area, the change-over switch 1 is switched to a 1/2 frequency divider 5 side and the capstan FG pulses are supplied to the tape counter 3 as the signals of 1 pulse/1sec through the 1/2 frequency divider 5 and 1/1,350 frequency divider 2, respectively. A tape running quantity display in hours, minutes, and seconds is performed by the signals.
