The invention relates to a device for illuminating exhibits, in particular in showcases, with the aid of coloured light. The device has a source of directed light. In order to be able to operate such a device using a multiplicity of different colours in conjunction with an extremely compact design, the device comprises at least one illuminating unit in which a plurality of colour filters are arranged on a cylindrical shell which can be rotated about the axis of the cylinder. Mounted downstream of the colour filters in the beam path is a deflecting mirror which is surrounded by the cylinder shell and directs the light beam onto an exhibit.
