PURPOSE:To manufacture a plate whose initial performance is increased and self-discharge rate is decreased by suspending the formation for a specified time, and immersing the plate in dilute sulfuric acid solution having the same as or higher than that for formation, then continuing formation. CONSTITUTION:Formation is suspended for 5 hours or more after proceeding 60-10% of theoretical formation capacity. During suspension of formation, a plate is immersed in dilute sulfuric acid solution whose specific acid is poured in a battery and stirred. By suspending the formation, the crystal of PbSO4 grows, and PbOx, PbO.nH2O reacts with H2SO4 to produce PbSO4 and H2O, and by the generation of H2O, pH is increased and the crystal of PbSO4 grows. Thereby, when the formation is performed again, non-reducing PbSO4 is in creased and PbO2 is quickly crystalized. After the formation, the plate obtained has 95% or more of PbO2 and the crystallinity of PbO2 is good. Therefore, the initial performance of the battery increased. |
