PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an agricultural and horticultural fungicide, etc., in high yield free from problems such as toxicity, etc., without using an expensive solvent, by reacting isonicotinic acid chloride hydrochloride with a 2-aminobnezhydrol derivative in a specific solvent in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Isonicotinic acid chloride hydrochloride is reacted with a 2- aminobenzhydrol derivative shown by formula I (X is H, methyl or halogen; Y is H or hologen; m is 1 or 2) in a halogenated alkyl solvent in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst such as triethylbenzylammonium chloride or a surface active agent such as sodium dodecylabenzene sulfonate, etc., at 0-50 deg.C, preferably 0-20 deg.C to give a compound shown by formula II. The amount of the phase transfer catalyst or the surface active agent used is 1-10wt%, prefer ably 2-5wt% based on the amount of the compound shown by formula I used. Dichloromethane, etc., may be cited as the solvent used.
