<p>PURPOSE:To improve the display quality of a liquid crystal display device for negative and positive display by providing a positive display part which has the same direction of orientation and the same direction of axes of polarization of a polarizing plate and a negative display part where axes of orientation are parallel and axes of polarization of a polarizing plate are orthogonal to each other and providing a part, where axes of orientation are orthogonal, in the negative display part to form a pattern display part. CONSTITUTION:A glass substrate 1 is subjected to the orienting treatment in the direction of an arrow A. A glass substrate 2 is subjected to the orienting treatment in the direction of a dotted arrow B, and thereafter, a part other than a positive display part 2a and a pattern display part 3 of a negative display part 2b, namely, a background part 4 is masked to subject the substrate 2 to the orienting treatment in the direction of a dotted arrow C. The axis of polarization of the polarizing plate stuck to the glass substrate 1 is parallel with the direction of the orienting treatment of the glass substrate, and that of the polarizing plate stuck to the glass substrate 2 is parallel with the direction of the orienting treatment of the positive display part 2a of the glass substrate 2.</p> |
