Copolymers are prepared from a -cyanomethylstyrene of the formula (see Division C2) and methyl methacrylate or styrene.ALSO:The invention comprises a -cyanomethylstyrene of the formula and a process for the preparation thereof which comprises reacting a -chloro- or a -bromo-methylstyrene with sodium cyanide or potassium cyanide. An example is furnished. The product may be copolymerized with methyl methacrylate or styrene.
