PURPOSE:To prevent cracks of a brazing material from occurring so as to improve the workability by providing cutaway portions for fitting tubes at bent portions formed by bending the upper and lower ends of a side plate in the direction of a core, fitting the tubes into the cutaway portions, and joining the bent portions of the side plates to the tubes in the vicinity of a core plate after assembling by brazing the tubes to fins. CONSTITUTION:The upper end portion of a side plate 6 is bent substantially at angle of 90 deg. at its tip end. The bent portions 6a are provided at two positions with cutaway portions 6b, for fitting tubes 3 in two rows of a heat exchanger. By use of this side plate 6, the tubes 3 are fixed to the fins 7. Then, the side plate 6 is fixed to the tubes 3 and fins 7 so that cutaway portions 6b of the side plate 6 are fitted into the tube rows, the tubes 3 and the fins 7 being assembled by brazing. Thereafter, the core plate 2 is inserted therebetween and the core plate 2 and the tubes 3 are integrally brazed to join to tthe bent portion 6a of the side plate 6 by means of a brazing material 4a. According to this structure, the core plate 2 and the bent portion 6a can be joined simultaneously to the tubes 3.
