PURPOSE:To reduce a noise and improve an output, by detecting a combustion pressure in an engine, extracting a predetermined frequency component of the noise from a signal of the combustion pressure, and controlling a swirl according to the output of the noise and an operational condition. CONSTITUTION:A suction system 3 of an engine is provided with a swirl forming passage directed to form a swirl with respect to a cylinder and with a straight passage directed to cancel the swirl. A swirl control valve 10 is provided in either of the passage. A control unit 30 receives an engine speed 21, a cooling water temperature 20, an intake manifold vacuum 8 and a combustion chamber pressure 22 to control an actuator 12 for controlling the swirl control valve 10. A predetermined noise frequency component is swirl control valve 10. A predetermined noise frequency component is extracted from the combustion chamber pressures detected by the pressure sensor 22, and the swirl is controlled according to the frequency component extracted and a operational condition of the engine.
