PURPOSE:To conserve the capacity of a memory to be used and to shorten the time required in the regeneration processing of an image, by equally dispersing a receiving signal in the region on a circular arc having a scanning point as the center at every scanning point and successively adding the value thereof. CONSTITUTION:A pulse generating part 7 applied spike-shaped pulse voltage to an ultrasonic transmitter-receiver 1 to transmit an ultrasonic signal to a material 6 to be inspected and an ultrasonic receiving signal is temporarily stored in an A/D line memory part 16 through a receiving amplifier 8 and an A/D converting part 9. Then, the data on an image memory part 21 is read according to the address information of an equal distance line shown by a circular arc determined by the time required from transmission to reception preliminarily stored in an equal distance line table 14 and subjected to the accumulation with the receiving data read from the A/D line memory part 16 by an accumulation part 18 to be stored in the same address of the image memory part 21. The above-mentioned processing operation is successively repeated at every scanning point to obtain a line image which is, in turn, outputted to be displayed on an image display part 15.
