NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown I (R<1>-R<10> are H, 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy, hologen, nitro or 1-2C halogen-substituted alkykl; R is naphthyl, substituted phenyl or substituent group derivative thereof). EXAMPLE:1-(2,3,4,5,6-Pentamethylbenzyl)-3,3-dimethylspiro[indolin-2,3' -[3H]-naph tho[2,1-b]pyran]. USE:A photochromic material for printing, photochromic material for optical devices, photochromic material for recording material and photochromic material for clothing and accessories. PREPARATION:A 2-methyleneindoline compound shown by formula II is reacted with a 2-hydroxy-L-naphthaldehyde compound shown by formula III optionally in an organic solvent (prefeably one having 30-160 deg.C boiling point, such as benzene, etc.,) at 0-160 deg.C for 0.5-4 hours.
