PURPOSE:To obtain a good casting body of which the existing solidified shell part is less eroded by generating a moving magnetic field in a way as to weaken gradually the same along the direction where a molten steel flows thereby changing continuously the stirring force for the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:Electromagnetic stirrers 1 are installed to face both sides of the broad surfaces of a casting slab 2 having a square sectional construction in such a way that the distance from the side face of the slab 2 in the direction perpendicular to the drawing direction of the slab up to the stirrers 1 increases gradually with the flow direction of the molten steel 3 by the moving magnetic field. The stirring force for the steel 3 is thus decreased toward the flow direction of the steel 3 and the velocity of the stirring flow near the solidified shell part 5 of the slab end is decreased. The erosion and breakout in the existing solidified shell part are thus prevented and the casting slab having a high rate of equiaxed crystal and good quality is obtd. |
