PURPOSE:To prevent a dye from migrating when not being heated, by sandwiching a thermal transfer coloring material layer of a thermal melting transfer type sheet between a dye transfer preventing layer for preventing a thermally transferrable dye from being transferred and a migration-preventing layer, and further providing an adhesion-preventing layer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer sheet 1 comprising a thermal transfer coloring material layer 4, a migration-preventing layer 5 and an adhesion-preventing layer 6 is provided further with a dye transfer preventing layer 3 for preventing a thermally transferrable dye in the layer 4 from being transferred to the side of a base 2, the layer 3 being provided between the base 2 and the layer 4. With the dye transfer preventing layer 3 provided, transfer efficiency of the dye is enhanced, and when the same printing energy is applied, images with a density higher than that obtained with a conventional thermal transfer sheet can be formed on a transfer recording material. A substance having such an effect is a substance poor in affinity for the dye, e.g., a cellulose resin such as ethyl cellulose and nitrocellulose, polyvinyl alcohol or a copolymer of an acrylic acid ester with acrylamide. |
