PURPOSE:To promote discharge of cutting chips, by forming a split groove, slotted in the diametric direction passing through the center, in the point end part of a column shape-formed electrode so that an electrolyte is stirred by rotating the electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electric discharge machining electrode 1 is formed into, for instance, a column shape of 50mu diameter, and its point end part forms a split groove 2 of 15mu width. The split groove 2 is formed by electric discharge machining the electrode itself. The electrode 1, while it is rotated, is lowered performing an electric discharge providing a discharge gap 6 for a work 3, placed in discharge machining fluid 5, and a hole 7 of true circular section is formed in the work 3. In this way, the machining fluid 5 in the machined hole 7 is stirred by the split groove 2, and the deep hole can be machined by easily discharging a machining chip 8.
