摘要 PURPOSE:To enable high-quality recording to be performed on a recording paper having a rough surface, by recording while vibrating in a predetermined manner by a piezoelectric element provided between a heat generating element layer and a substrate or provided on the upper side of the heat generating element layer. CONSTITUTION:A partial glaze layer 2 of a glaze glass is provided on an alumina substrate 1. Then, an Au electrode 3 is provided, a PZT film 4 as a piezoelectric element is provided thereon, and an Au electrode 5 is provided thereon. Further, an insulating layer 6 of SiO2 is provided, and a heat generating resistor layer 7 is provided. Next, Au is patterned to provide electrodes 8, 8, and a protective layer 9 is provided by using SiO2 again. A Ta2O5 layer is provided as an abrasion-resistant layer 10 on the protective layer 9. When an alternating voltage is impressed between the electrodes 3, 5, vibration at the characteristic frequency of the entire body of a thermal head is generated. With the vibration added to heating, an ink of a transfer ribbon becomes able to easily penetrates into the surface of a recording paper, and the ink can be securely transferred. Accordingly, high-quality printing can be performed even on a recording paper having a high surface roughness, a sealed letter having a stepped part, or the like.
