<p>PURPOSE:To enhance trihalomethane removing capacity, by using an activated carbon fiber of which the BET specific surface area is 300-1,500m<2>/g and the equilibrium moisture content at relative humidity of 37% is a specific range as a trihalomethane removing base material. CONSTITUTION:After a pitch stock material such as coal tar pitch was subjected to melt spinning, the spun yarn is oxidized and made non-meltable at 200-400 deg.C for 0.5-15hr in air until an oxygen bonding amount reaches 5-10wt%. Subsequently, the treated yarn is introduced into an activating furnace to be activated at 800-1,400 deg.C under gauge pressure of 0.002-2kg/cm<2> and subsequently treated with inert gas at 900-1,300 deg.C. The obtained activated carbon fiber has a BET specific surface area (x) of 300-1,500m<2>/g and equilibrium moisture content (y) at relative humidity of 37% having a value within a range shown by formula and is useful as a trihalomethane removing base material.</p> |
