PURPOSE:To make it possible to shorten the time required for exchanging tools, by only swinging a tool exchange arm disposed in the center space in a ring-like magazine and having both ends provided with tool gripping sections, to directly grip a tool indexed in the magazine. CONSTITUTION:In order to take up a tool which has been indexed at a predeter mined position in a magazine 10, a bracket 16 is rotated by 90 deg. about a swinging shift 11a as a rotating center, an arm located at the position (a) is swung to the position (c) to directly grip a tool 13 in a tool pot 12 by only one swinging motion as mentioned above. Then, a long cylinder 15b is advanced in the horizon tal direction to pull out the tool from the position (c) to the position (d). When a cylinder rod 17 is retracted to swing the arm gripping the tool to the position (b), the tool gripped by the arm is brought to the magazine side. Then the arm 15 is turned by 180 deg. about the turning shaft 11d of an automatic tool exchanger to locate the tool on the spindle 1 side, and when the long cylinder 15b is moved back, the tool 13 is stored into the spindle 1 which is then shifted toward the magazine, thereby it is possible to release the restraint between the arm 15 and the tool 13. |
