A silver halide photographic material having on a support at least one hydrophilic colloid layer and at least one silver halide emulsion layer containing tabular silver halide grains having a grain diameter of at least 5 times the thickness of the grains and at least one compound represented by general formula (I) <IMAGE> (I) wherein R1 represents a methyl group and R2 represents an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an aryl group, or a substituted aryl group.
