PURPOSE:To reduce a time to read a drawing by making plural optical read heads read and scan plural areas on allocated drawings in parallel, and storing simultaneously bits of picture information read by the heads at designated split area on a picture memory. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is constituted so that two optical read heads 3a and 3b read and scan two areas 2a and 2b at a drawing 2 on a drum 1 allocated in right and left in a width direction in parallel, and the scans of all areas on the drawing 2 are completed at the completion time of the scan on each of the area 2a and 2b. Picture pre-input devices 4a and 4b convert a bit of analog picture information from the heads 3a and 3b, or perform an operation to eliminate noise. A picture memory 5 provides areas corresponding to the number of heads, in this case, two split areas 5a and 5b, and a bit of picture information from the head 3a through the input device 4a, and the bit of picture information from the head 3b through th input device 4b are transmitted in parallel respectively to the split areas 5a and 5b, then being stored (therefore, simultaneously).
