PURPOSE:To shorten a drying time and to compute and display a moisture content automatically by drying a sample such as sludge by using a microwave and measuring the weight of the sample by a weight detector continuously. CONSTITUTION:A sample throw-in chute is provided to the upper part of a sample drying chamber 1 of sealed structure and a sample carry-out device 18 is provided to the lower part; and a weight detection terminal 6 is provided internally. Further, a microwave oscillator 10 is connected to the drying chamber 1. A sample on the weight detection terminal 6 is discharged by the sample carry-out device 18 from a sample discharge door 5. The weight detection terminal 6 is connected to an arithmetic display device 12 through the weight detector 11 and the microwave oscillator 10 and sample carry-out device 18 are also connected to the arithmetic display device 12. Then, the sample is dried by a microwave sent from the microwave oscillator 10 through a waveguide 8 and the sample weight is measured continuously by the detection terminal 6 and detector 11, so that the arithmetic display device 12 computes and displays the water content of the sample by using a specific expression.
