PURPOSE:To relieve a shock when a piston rod stops by making oil which is sealed in a part of a piston pass through a flow passage the gap of which is gradually reduced, in the vicinity of the end of the stroke of an air cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A floating piston 4 and a tapered ring 6 are provided on a piston 2, and a space between the floating piston 4 and the tapered ring 6 is filled with oil. When the piston 2 comes close to the end of its stroke, the end of the floating piston 4 is brought into contact with a rod cover 13 and, as the piston 2 further continues to advance, the oil flows through a flow passage between the projection 8 of the floating piston 4 and the tapered ring the gap between which is gradually reduced. Accordingly, the advancing speed of the piston 2 is reduced, relieving a shock when a piston rod 1 stops.
