PURPOSE:To decrease the voltage drop due to an electric resistance at a high current discharge so as to obtain excellent characteristics by connecting a mesh made of copper material to a collector strip made of lead material electrically and mechanically. CONSTITUTION:The edge portion 1' of at least one side of a rectangular mesh 1 composed of copper or copper alloy is pinched with two pieces of lead or lead alloy strip 2, and using mechanical, electrical or thermal energy from the outside the said edge portion 1' and two pieces of strip 2 are joined together as a unit. It is desirable to coat the surface of the mesh 1 composed of copper material with lead or lead alloy mainly composed of lead before or after the mesh 1 is joined to the strip 2 using the process such as plating, metal spraying or dip plating. Because the hydrogen overvoltage of copper material is lower than that of lead material the defect increasing the self-discharge of the negative electrode plate can be eliminated. The process for joining the mesh 1 and the strip 2 together is performed by pinching the edge portion 1' of one side of the mesh with two strips made of lead material, by heating and melting the contact surface with ultrasonic oscillation applied from outside, and the solidifying. |
