PURPOSE:To enable filtration of emulsion even by a conventional filter device by repeating the following short-period filtration cycle by means of an automatic controller in many times which consists of a filtration process due to driving of a pump and a backwash process wherein the pump is not driven. CONSTITUTION:A tank (t) of the outsides of the filter bodies 18 is made to a chamber (x) of liquid to be treated and the insides of the filter bodies 18 are made to the chambers (y) of purified liquid by comparting the filter bodies with the filter members (f). Filtration process is performed for only several minutes by driving a pump P and thereafter when the following backwash process is performed for ten several seconds - several minutes wherein the pump P is not driven, and liquid is flowed to the chamber (x) from the chambers (y), fine grain clogged on the filter members (f) is removed. The combination of the filtration process and the backwash process is made to one short-period filtration cycle and this cycle is repeated in many times by an automatic controller.
