PURPOSE:To enable sentences in Japanese or alphabet letters to be output at appropriate pitch without providing any special character generator by the reading part of a corresponding character pattern area when a mode for the reading part of the character pattern area has been selected. CONSTITUTION:A character generator 4 which memorizes a character pattern in a character pattern area, a mode selection means CPU 2 which selects, a conversion mode from character code to character pattern and a pattern conversion means (CPU) 2 which is actuated in the pattern conversion mode selected by the afore-mentioned mode selection means are provided. When the mode to read part of the character pattern area has been selected, the pattern conversion means 2 offsets the head address of a character pattern by required amount, and reads the part (e.g. the center) of the character pattern area from there. |
