PURPOSE:To obtain active carbon yarn which contains a large number of micropores having fixed pore diameter, capable of controlling diameter of the micropores, by adding a specific compound to pitch, subjecting the pitch to melt spinning, making the yarn infusible, carbonizing the infusible yarn and activating the carbonized yarn with steam. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. pitch blended with 0.01-10pts.wt. at least one compound selected from compounds of group IIA element of periodic table, transition metal element and potassium, subjected to melt spinning and made infusible. The infusible yarn is carbonized and then activated with steam or simultaneously carbonized and activated with steam to give active carbon yarn containing a large number of micropores having >=40Angstrom pore diameters. |
