PURPOSE:To produce a material which has the performance resembling to the performance of active carbon and is helpful for cleaning up various harmful materials by mixing industrial waste sludge, iron powder and inorg. carbide and activating the mixture. CONSTITUTION:The industrial waste sludge mixed with the iron powder and inorg. carbide is supplied from a sludge feed port 1 into a cylindrical body 2. The height of the body 2 is made adjustable by an adjusting handle 9. The compressing force by the weight of the sludge mixture thrown into a controlling cylinder 3 is made to be exerted constantly on a friction disk 4. The disk 4 is further rotated at a high speed by a motor 7 and a spindle coupling 6 or the like to generate friction heat in the mixture. Heat is suppletorily generated at all times in the space between the disk 4 and a spindle supporting plate 10. The sludge mixture pushed out and heated onto such heat generating disk 4 moves in the direction of an arrow and is carbonized and dry distilled. The carbonized mixture is discharged to a discharge outside frame 5 and is thus made into the activated dry distillate. Such material has properties resembling the properties of active carbon and is helpful for cleaning up various harmful materials.
