PURPOSE:To surely identify information tracks by specifying the length and position etc., of information in an area that separates and distinguishes information tracks. CONSTITUTION:Tracks of each band 203 are constituted of separation areas 202, information tracks 201 of a group of unit data areas 204, identifying areas 205 etc., and the areas 202 are read by a sensor array 10 and corresponding tracks 201 are identified. Information of the areas 202 is made to 1/2 of the length in vertical direction of the direction of arrangement of information bits of tracks 201, and positioned in one side of information bits of the tracks 201. Accordingly, only information of areas 202 of corresponding tracks 201 is read out even in the case where the sensor 10 is slanted in some degree, and the information of adjoining track is not read out. Consequently, the information tracks can be identified surely.
