Process for the preparation of symmetrical disulphide compounds containing the sequence R-S-S-R in which R represents an organic radical, according to which 2 to 4 molar equivalents of a thiol derivative are reacted, in an organic solvent, at room temperature and in the presence of a tertiary amine, with one molar equivalent of an alkyl- or arylsulphonyl halide.
