The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 1-[3'-{bromo}-(2'S)-{methyl}-propionyl]-pyrrolidine-(2S)-carboxylic acid of the formula <IMAGE> or its monohydrate, if desired with subsequent recrystallisation of the product from water, in which the 3'-[bromo]-(2'S)-[methyl]-propionic acid [pyrrolidine-(2S)-carboxylic acid benzyl ester] salt of the formula <IMAGE> is reacted with a condensing agent in one or more inert organic solvent(s) and the benzyl 1-[3'-[bromo]-(2'S)-[methyl]-propionyl] pyrrolidine-(2S)-carboxylate of the formula <IMAGE> is debenzylated by catalytic hydrogenation.r |
