PURPOSE:Branched conjugated fiber that is produced by slitting a multilayered film composed of thermoplastic resin layers differing in melting point and drawing, or slitting after drawing, then splitting thus being readily miscible with pulp materials. CONSTITUTION:A multilayered film 14 which is composed of at least two layers where one layer differs from the other in melting point is slitted and draw, or drawn and slitted. Or when the multilayered film is tape, the slitting process is omitted and only drawing is effected. Then, the resultant drawn tape 14 is brought into contact with the roll 13 having needles 12 on its surface to effect splitting, and the split fibers are cut into staple fibers.
