PURPOSE:To prepare easily sinterable alumina powder having small means particle size, small dispersion of particle size and particle shape by adding alpha-alumina powder to alumina sol, gelling the mixture after mixing, calcining and crushing. CONSTITUTION:After adding and mixing 0.1-50pts.wt. alpha-alumina powder with 100pts.wt. alumina hydrate in alumina sol, the the mixture is calcined and/or heated, etc., to form alumina gel, which is dried, calcined, and crushed further. Thus, easily sinterable alumina powder having small mean particle size, small dispersion of particle size and particle shape, being converted to denser structure at low temp. in the stage of sintering is obtd.
